Pilgrim's
Diary - Tuesday, January 8, 2002 by Vipramukhya Swami
Nasau County, Long Island, New York There's snow outside, and the sun is shining. My Salagram Silas and Govardhan Silas are situated on an altar a few feet away. I am in a living room. The floor is carpeted wall to wall. There are many plants, both real and artificial, and many pictures of Krishna on the walls. I am at the house of Balaram and Revati, two aspiring Indian disciples originally from Trinidad. They have two grown children, both living at home, both deaf from birth, one boy and one girl. After four years serving as the temple president of Bhaktivedanta Manor, I happily turned the reins of power over to Gauri dasa on January 2, and now I am free of managerial responsibilities again. Well, almost. I am still the regional secretary for ISKCON Long Island. It is a small center in the suburbs of New York, not the main New York City temple. Yesterday my disciples saw me off at Heathrow Airport in London. However, when it was time to board the flight it was delayed by an hour and a half while they repaired a broken hydraulic system. Finally I was off to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Because the flight was late, I arrived at 10:30 PM, an hour and half late. It was snowing. The temple president of ISKCON Long Island, His Grace Viswa Prana Prabhu, was planning to pick me up, but his wife started having contractions and he had to rush her to the hospital to have a baby. So they arranged for Balaram and Revati to pick me up, and because of the lateness of the hour, we came here to his house, not far from the airport, rather than to the Long Island temple, which is a further drive. I will be in the New York region for a week and then fly to Seattle for one day before flying across the Pacific to Melbourne, Australia, my first trip there. During these weeks of travel, I will attempt to send in regular contributions to the Chakra website. Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada, © CHAKRA 10 January 2002 |
