Srila Prabhupada’s Lending Library
by Ravinder Sihra

It would be really great if ISKCON temples all over the world start opening lending libraries.

Each temple should put a notice up for the congregation to donate any Krishna Consciousness books, tapes, videos CD’s, etc., which they have finished with and no longer require to the temple so that they can be used to open a lending library within the temple. Some books, the temples would have to supply themselves. The library could be started with a few books but gradually increase in number.

There should be a membership system and a yearly charge to the borrowers. ID’s must be checked before membership is granted. All books should have a nice plastic cover put on to keep them in good condition. The borrowers must sign terms and conditions, e.g. the books are holy books so they must be treated with the greatest respect. A full charge will have to be paid by the borrower if any book is not returned in good condition. Only one or two books allowed to be borrowed at a time and for a specified time. The more expensive books should only be for reference. A devotee in each temple should be given the service to run the library.

The library in each temple should be called Srila Prabhupada’s Lending Library, as Srila Prabhupada would be very pleased with these libraries: they would give a chance to a lot more people to learn about Krishna Consciousness.

I hope this idea catches on and we see libraries opening within ISKCON temples throughout the world.

Hari Bol,

Ravi.
