Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glory to our divine masters.
The trial of the devotees in Jagannatha Puri accused by Austrian Maria Schmidova of raping her six-year-old daughter, Tulasi, on June 28, 2000, has continued in the Puri Court the past three days. Three witnesses are examined each day. Each witness has repeated the same facts: "I do not know anything. I do not know these people. I do not know about any rape. The police grabbed me from the street and forced me to sign my name on a blank sheet of paper."
At one point yesterday, a female police constable was called, and she pointed at accused Asoke Sahu and said, "That is Bhakta dasa." The judge had her step down while the onlookers laughed.
Already 12 witnesses have been called. Every one has implicated the Orissa Crime Branch in deliberately fabricating this false case.
Maria Schmidova, the complainant has not appeared. She admitted in Austrian High Court one year ago that the case is false. She also named two prominent Puri lawyers as instigating her and guiding her in making this false case. For unknown reasons the Crime Branch and the Orissa court ignored the Austrian Court judgment, and have kept the innocent devotees in jail for another year.
On Thursday, the court asked the police when Maria would be appearing. Rather than admit the truth, the police have asked the court for two more months to try and bring Maria. The lawyers say that if Maria is not present within two months, the case will be dismissed finally. The devotees are in jail and still denied bail.
The devotees serving a sentence for the rape that never happened appreciate your kind prayers for their protection.
