Srimati Vrndavanesvari Mataji
By Indira Dasi
Although I am also a disciple of His Holiness Tamal Krsna Goswami, I would like to say something about the glorious passing of Srimati Vrndavanesvari Mataji. I do not have the full details of her life as I have only known her since 1994, but I will say what I do know.
Vrndavanesvari was probably one of the most sincere devotees I know. She was always trying to use every second to develop love for Krsna. Her chanting was always very fervent, and she was always eager to associate and serve senior devotees. Since I joined in 1994, at the age of 16, she has been like a mother to me. She always said I was her baby.
She came to Mayapur this year to associate with Tamal Krsna Goswami, with whom she has a siksa relationship, and I am not surprised that they left their bodies on the same day. I remember once he said to her, "I don't know what it is about you and me. There’s just a very strong connection."
Vrndavanesvari has helped me through some of the toughest times of my life. She always preached to devotees very strongly and purely, but at the same time was very compassionate and understanding.
I attended the bathing and dressing etc. of her body yesterday and also her cremation on the banks of the Ganga. The devotees bathed her body, dressed it in clean cloth, and decorated her with flowers, sandalwood paste, tilak, and tulasi. She was taken to the banks of the Ganga by the devotees. There was an auspicious mood as the sun slowly set over the waters of the Ganges. I am so happy I was able to render some final service to this great devotee who has attained the highest goal.
I was speaking to Svati Mataji last night, and she was telling me that Vrndavanesvari was expressing to her that her birthday always made her feel mental and strange, but this year she hoped it would fulfill all her desires (March 15 was her 41st birthday). I know that it did. Srimati Vrndavanesvari Mataji ki jaya!
