Women: A
New Devotee Asks By Bhakta Matt
Dear devotees of Krishna, I am relatively new to Krishna consciousness, and admire your website. I have come across a question that has been haunting me and your site discusses, to some degree: the role of women in ISKCON. The biggest thing keeping my heart from surrender is a statement in a purport on page 19 of the Gita that says women are less intelligent and therefore not trustworthy. I am not a woman myself, but still this statement troubled me, and I can understand how women might get mistreated now and then in a society whose purport seems to state such an unfair view of women. Of course I love Swami Prabhupad, and outside of this apparent view of his, I am ready to take shelter at his lotus feet. I was just hoping someone there might be able to clarify this item for me, as I feel I cannot spiritually progress without being first at ease concerning this. My humble obeisances, Hari bol, Bhakta Matt © CHAKRA 23 May 2002 |
