Dear Devotees:
One of the most famous and important festivals that we have in Sri Mayapur Chandrodaya Mandir in Sri Mayapur Dham is The Candan Yatra. During this time, devotees can see the Supreme Lord Madhava covered completely by candan [sandalwood] in different colors every day, and after one week we see His forehead as well as Srimati Radhika and the Asta Sakhis covered with Candan during this month.
Starting from a few years back, there is one day when Lord Madhava is Nila Madhava [Blue Madhava], covered completely by blue candan, and this is one of the most attractive days. Devotees remain for a long time before the altar just looking at the Lord, impressed by His transcendental beauty. On other days, the Lord may be covered by yellow candan, and on the rest of the days by natural-colored of candan.
It is great to see how many devotees spend part of their time preparing the candan from the day before. Adults, young, children, prabhus, matajies— everyone shares this transcendental service to the Lord, and at the end, they all receive the candan prasad to place on their foreheads.
