Malaga
Ratha Yatra By Bhakta James Bradwell On the 17th August 2002, Malaga city in Spain was fortunate to witness the Ratha-yatra festival. We had the good fortune to be present and witness His Holiness Bhakti Caru Swami Maharaja and His Holiness Chandra Mauli Swami Maharaja dance and sing in bliss before Their Lordships, Sri Jagannath, Sri Baladeva, and Sri Subhadra. The kirtan was fast and high spirited, appropriate for the hot mid-August weather, nearly 40 degrees C. The festival started in the Port of Malaga and with the breaking of the coconuts the fun began. Their Lordships allowed us to pull Them with ease throughout the packed streets of one of Europe’s most popular holiday resorts. With a police escort on hand, everything went beautifully, and prasad was distributed to the crowds, who eagerly munched the peanut-and-raisin transcendental mix, distributed by the local devotee children. Amazing and strong, the kirtan pounded the maya away from the hearts of all who heard. When we arrived at base again, happy faces all around, we decided to do Hari-nama in the streets for more bliss. Later in the evening we had a beautiful program, consisting of bhajan, dance and glorification of the Lord. All glories to all the devotees who made this wonderful day possible. All glories to Srila Prabhupada who brought this transcendental festival to Western shores! All glories to His Holiness Bhakti Caru Swami Maharaja and His Holiness Chandra Mauli Swami Maharaja, and thank you sincerely for your wonderful and causeless association! Please see attached photos, and coming soon, an MP3 recording of the festival featuring His Holiness Bhakti Caru Swami Maharaja and His Holiness Chandra Mauli Swami Maharaja!
