Why Women
Stay in Abusive Relationships By Radha dasi Dear
Padmapani dasa: Dandavats!
Thanks for your message. I did my research in this field when I was
working in academia and just wanted to add one point. Women who are in
abusive relationships are in the most physical danger when they separate
from their abusers. This country, at least, suffers from severe denial
about the actual danger facing women in abusive relationships. Most women
who are killed by their abusers are killed after they have left the
relationship. Sociologists and others even have a name for this phenomenon
(separation attack). In addition, frustrated abusers also kill family and
friends of the woman who has left. This fact alone explains why it is so
difficult to leave an abusive relationship, what to speak of the other
heavy barriers you listed. We also need to understand that simply walking
away does not end the abuse for most women. Please feel free to forward my
comment to the places where you sent your message. Thanks
again! Your
servant, Radha d.d. © CHAKRA 26-May-2000 Go to the Maha-Mantra
