Response to Jayapataka Swami
By Krsnacandra dasa
Dear CHAKRA readers,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
I thank HH Jayapataka Maharaja for responding
to my last letter. I would like to make a few comments in response
to his.
Jayapataka Swami wrote, “From my perspective I 'did' not see any
difference between the GBC executive committee and the GBC body. I was
under the impression that the Executive Committee was a plenary body
comprised of devotees elected from the GBC to respond to the more day to
day responsibilities of the GBC.”
It seems from Maharaja's comments that there is a difference and that the
executive committee was not acting and possibly in some way does not act
with the authority of the GBC.
My point is quite simple and clear: the decision of the ICOCP was over
turned. I did not over turn it. A body that has the power to over turn
such a decision over turned it. I believe that the ICOCP would not accept
the decision of just any body and nor would Danadhara Maharaja. My point
is that to all extents and purposes it was overturned by the GBC.
I pray that if Maharaja is not happy with the decision of the Executive
Committee that he will; call an extraordinary meeting of the GBC to over
turn the decision of the Executive Committee; request a vote of no
confidence in its members; question the relevance of having such a body if
it does not have plenary powers.
I believe that it will only be through the help and leadership of senior
devotees like Maharaja that we can gain the upper hand in this child abuse
scenario that we are currently embroiled in and create a better ISKCON in
the process.
Yours in the service of Srila Prabhupada Krsnacandra dasa (kcdasa@eisa.net.au)
