Hare
Krishna Convention 2001 Malaysia The 4th Annual Hare Krishna convention this year will be
specially dedicated for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada in commemorating
the 30th Appearance Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada in
Malaysia.
The venue of the
convention is at a beautiful resort located beside a 7000 acres lake in
the north of Perak state and
about 40 minutes south of the popular Penang Island. Srila Prabhupada
set his lotus feet in Malaysia on 2nd May 1971 and within a few
days travelled from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur to the north of
Malaysia passing through smaller towns. In all the towns Srila Prabhupada
set his lotus feet ISKCON Malaysia has registered branches of the society.
Beautiful temples are also being built in many of the towns. Annual Ratha
Yatra festivals are celebrated at 12
centres in the country. The most popular being at Penang Island where
three chariots ride in the busiest roads of the main city. One of the
latest manifestation of Srila Prabhupada’s mercy is an approval
by the Penang Development Corporation of a one acre of land for the
construction of a temple for Lord Krishna. One of Srila Prabhupada’s
main reasons to come to Malaysia in 1971 was to attend to some land
matters for ISKCON. Although ISKCON
Malaysia has buildings and land properties around the country, this is the
first time that a land specifically designated for the purpose of
temple construction has been awarded to the society. More so the
land approval was given on Gaura Purnima this year and on the 30th
Appearance Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada in Malaysia. There will be many speakers for the convention with a daily reserved slot for Srila Prabhupada Smrti. Malaysia has
nice tropical climate and is a very attractive place for tourists and
devotees. Devotees who attend the convention will mainly be from Nama
Hatta centres and from neighbouring Singapore. Some devotees from Taiwan
will also attend. HH Bhanu Swami
will speak on “Something Funny Happened On The Way To The Moon”, HH
Bhakti Tirtha Swami will do workshops on “Forgiveness in the Vaisnava
community”, “ Developing greater trust in the Vaisnava community”
and on “Different kinds of
Vaisnava Prayers”. HH Jayapataka Swami will speak on Caitanya Bhagavat.
HH Prabhavisnu Swami will lecture on Caitanya Caritamrta while HH Bhakti
Vikna Vinash Narasimha Swami will teach practical yoga. HG Janananda
prabhu, the author of Prabhupada In Malaysia will facilitate Prabhupada
Smrti sessions and will hold Japa workshops. Local facilitators will hold
seminars in Tamil language.
