Worm Attacking Devotees' Computers
By
Vipramukhya Swami
CHAKRA (Bhaktivedanta Manor, England) - July
4, 2001: A GBC member
has discovered that a hacker has been sending devotees an “Internet worm”
which has the ability to replace files on the hard disk, and break the security
of devotees' email system. “Even if we are sending encrypted messages, the
contents of our hard disk may be going out over the internet to someone who is
intercepting them,” writes GBC member Bir Krishna Goswami, who allowed us to
print the article on CHAKRA.
Bir
Krishna Goswami advises everyone to immediately run a virus checking program.
“Make sure the program is completely up to date as this worm has just been
discovered recently,” he says.
“Once
discovered, getting rid of it takes about an hour and involves replacing files
on your hard disk.”
One
of the alleged things that the Internet worm does is to make it difficult or
impossible to access the anti virus sites on the Internet.
“Please check your computer immediately and in the future never, never open any file from anyone who you do not know,” Bir Krishna Goswami says.
