Krishna Comes
to the Corn Belt
By Bhakta
Wallace
KANSAS CITY, MO, USA—Missouri, that staunch stronghold of middle-class American values and home to the late President Harry S. Truman, is now home to the Rupanuga Vedic College (RVC) a Krishna conscious men's seminary located on a quiet tree-lined street in Kansas City's suburban district and close to two major universities.
And why not? Noted for it's farm and agricultural production, Missouri is the ideal place to plant Krishna consciousness (pun not intended). After all, Krishna loves the cows and eternally has a place in His heart for His devotees.
The Rupanuga Vedic College is an institution whose time has come. With a very eclectic prospectus and curriculum founded by ISKCON-GBC's Global Minister for recruiting and training, His Holiness Danavir Goswami Maharaja, it appears that the RVC is here to stay. And the locals seem to be deriving transcendental pleasure. After almost two years of struggle, 150 people attended the recent Janmastami festival making it the most successful ever. In fact, the mood at RVC is very reminiscent of the early days of the movement when Krishna consciousness was being introduced in the mid-1960s.
HH Danavir Goswami Maharaja (Dr. Dane Holtzman) is certainly the man qualified as RVC's Inaugural President. A disciple of the late HDG A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who was Founder-Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in the West, Danavir Goswami, a graduate of UCLA joined ISKCON in 1970. He is also the author of several books more notably, His Divine Grace, co-author and editor of Vedic Paradigm, and more importantly, Fortunate Souls, the famous Bhakta Program Manual, which is considered ISKCON’s Bible for Bhakta training worldwide.
Quoting from Danavir Goswami's RVC Prospectus and Courses, "The RVC is unique in the world in that it offers a pure Vaisnava (literally, ‘devoted to Visnu or Krishna’) an educational environment with the opportunity to earn Associate, Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorates of Divinity degrees. RVC also offers Vaisnava devotional titles such as Bhakti-sastri and Bhakti-vaibhava."
In addition, Danavir Goswami is realizing one of the desires stressed by his spiritual master Srila Prabhupada in terms of developing educational colleges for Vaisnava studies.
Those students and devotees desiring to avail themselves of the courses RVC
has to offer or to inquire may contact the RVC at 1-800-340-5286
or they may contact HH Danavir Goswami Maharaja in writing at
5201 The Paseo Kansas City, MO 64110
or they may email RVC from the website at: www.rvc.edu
