Easy Sprouting
by Devadeva
dasi
Hare Krishna!
I know many devotees are interested in bean sprouts for the increased nutrition and digestibility they provide. However, they are rather expensive when purchased from the market. I have read complicated procedures for sprouting beans and been discouraged.
Recently I spoke with Jamuna Devi, who works in the kitchen at the restaraunt here. She told me a very easy way to sprout beans. I just sprouted whole mung dal and the process only took 2 days (1/2 inch tails). This process can be applied to virtually any type of whole bean. Jamuna Devi highly recommends whole mung and black channa dal.
First, rinse dal.
Soak for approximately 6 hours, until dal begins to open
Rinse beans again. Lay damp towel or paneer cloth in baking pan. Spread dal over cloth. Cover dal with damp cloth.
Daily rinse beans and cloth. In a matter of no time you will have a nutritious accoutrement for sabji/stir-fry or salads.
Hare Krishna.
Your servant,
Devadeva dasi
