ISKCON’s 15th Annual Vraja Mandala Parikrama,
Part 9

by Ekanath dasa

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Day 17. Varsana to Nandagaon. Pili Pokhar. Mother Yasoda loved Radharani and wanted Her to marry Krsna. One time, when Radharani came to Nandagram, Mother Yasoda put some tumeric pulp on Her hands, which was the custom for making a marriage agreement finalized. When Radharani saw Her yellow hands, She became embarrassed and washed Her hands in the water of this pond. The water of this kund became yellowish. Pili Pokhar means yellow pond.

Prem Sarovar. One time Krsna and Radharani were sitting together. One bee was disturbing Radharani by flying near Her. Krsna requested a friend to chase away the bee, and after finishing the task the friend came back proclaiming that Madhu was gone. As Madhu is a name for both a bee and Krsna, Radharani began to cry thinking that Krsna was gone. Seeing Radharani cry, Krsna also began to cry, and their tears mingled together and became the kund known as Prem Sarovar.

We also visited Gopal Bhatta Goswami's bhajan kutir and the main temple of Nandagram, Krsna Balaram temple. It is here that the palace of Nanda Maharaja used to stand, situated on the top of Nandishwara hill

Day 18. Nandagaon to Kokilavan. Ter Kadamba. A small forest close to Nandagram, Krsna would sit here and play His flute, attracting the cows. He would climb up on the kadamba trees to call the cows.

Yavat. This is the village where Abhimanyu, the husband of Radharani, and his family lived. Radharani would stand on the roof of Her house and look out to see if Krsna was coming.

Kokilavan. HH Lokanath Swami: "This is one of the favorite meeting places of Radha and Krsna. Kokil is a cuckoo. Sometimes Krsna would dress like a cuckoo bird here and cry out in a voice imitating the sound of a cuckoo. He would do this to call the gopis. One time, as He cried out, He was joined by thousands of crying cuckoos. The sound reached Javat. Jatila, the mother in law of Radharani, was curious to know what was causing the noise. Vishaka volunteered herself and Radharani to go and find out. In this way, they were able to go and visit Krsna. So, Vishaka and Radharani walked on this very same path that we have just walked on from Javat to Kokilavan."

Day 19. Disappearance day of Srila Prabhupada. All the Parikrama devotees returned, for the day, to Vrndavana by bus.

Your servant,
Ekanath dasa
