George Harrison Leaves His Body
by Krishna Kripa Dasa (Spain)

Today, 30 November, the famous ex-beatle and ISKCON supporter George Harrison left his body at the age of 58, due to a throat cancer. He passed away in Los Angeles. It is a very sad day not only for the Beatles' fans but also for the ISKCON devotees.

Srila Prabhupada once said (1976 in Bhaktivedanta Manor) that he considered George Harrison his disciple although he was not initiated.

Among other contributions, George Harrison paid for the first printing of the Krishna Book, and he also wrote the foreword. He produced the Govinda and Radha Krishna Temple in 1969 with the London Devotees. He donated the famous Bhaktivedanta Manor. In 1996, during the campaign to save the Manor, he came to the temple and led kirtan, playing the harmonium.

In his biography A Dark Horse, he said this about Srila Prabhupada: "He was the best musician that I ever heard."

In Spain we use to distribute huge quantities of the booklet George Harrison and the Mantra, and Interview with H.H. Mukunda Maharaj, who was also his personal friend. I saw both of them in Vrindavan in 1996.

He also introduced many people to the mahamantra with the number-one hit "My Sweet Lord" in 1970.

I request all the Vaisnavas that we must pray for the soul of Sriman George Harrison, as Srila Prabhupada used to call him. I am sure that Lord Krishna and Srila Prabhupada will remember all the service that this humble devotee did for Them.

Sorry for my poor English.

Dasanudasa,

Krishna Kripa Dasa
