Dear Friends,

I wanted to share a few thoughts about Sriman George Harrison. According to to the Vaishnava philosophy, no one is more dear to Krishna than one who spreads the holy names of Krishna. I personally believe that after Srila Prabhupada, no one other than George Harrison can claim to have spread the chanting of Hare Krishna throughout the Western world.

Harinam Sankirtan is the yajna of the age. It is the process for the age, the Yuga Dharma, the prescription for the ills of Kali Yuga. George Harrison was that saintly soul who flooded the world with the holy names of Krishna. Without trying to prop himself up as the leader, he simply encouraged others to chant and surrender to Prabhupada. This fact empowered his chanting with sincerity, purity and divine inspiration. This inspired chanting was heard and received into the hearts of millions. Only one very dear to Lord Krishna can do this. Those dear to Krishna are truly Saints. Therefore, we need to offer George Harrison our prostrated obeisances and seek his blessings.

George Harrison's departure once again caused the world to chant the holy names of Lord Krishna. As I was driving home, the day after his passing, my radio suddenly starts blasting the Hare Krishna Mantra. It was a news interview about George Harrison's impact on the world. Within three minutes, the holy names of Krishna were chanted 10 times. What a blessed death. Only one very dear to Lord Krishna can cause so much Harinam.

So my humble request to my Godsisters and Godbrothers is to not underestimate the value of such a Vaishnava.

Here, in Eugene, Oregon, we are having a festival in his honor. In accordance with Vedic tradition, we are having a festival nine days after his passing, on Dec 8th. I pray and encourage all devotees and temples to do the same thing. Let’s show our gratitude and honor this great Vaishnava.

All glories to Sriman George Harrison!!! He had everything of the material world yet still recognized that Srila Prabhupada's message of love was more valuable than anything he had experienced. Such souls are rare and the earth is made that much more beautiful by their presence. May he bless us with success in our struggles with Maya. May he bless us with the strength to still remember and share Krishna though we may be surrounded by temptations.
