The meaning 'matajee' became a term of name-calling, a sexist oriented labeling, a big joke.

Hate for Women:
A Practice of Celibacy?

By Ratna Sadal

My first shocking observation, when I entered the movement, is the misinterpretation of women roles within Vedic religious practices. The purpose of Lord Caitanya's preaching movement is especially focused on delivering the most unfortunate conditioned souls, such as sudras and women. My most shocking experience is that women are called "matajee," which means mother and are at the same time disrespected.

Not long ago I bumped into a young man who showed sexual interest for me and at the same time called me matajee. Well, I had to back out for a minute to figure out what was going on. The meaning "matajee" became a term of name-calling, a sexist oriented labeling, a big joke.

Actually, when you follow the teachings of Lord Caitanya closely, you'll find out that whatever is going on, regarding the disrespected attitude towards women, is completely unwanted behavior. It is not part of Krishna Consciousness. Matajee means mother expressed with great respect. Those fools who think that hating women is proper practice of celibacy are completely in illusion.

Hate and lust are two sides on the same coin. The coin is flipped and lust becomes hate. Both are on the same abominable level of activity. Remember!!!!, you are chanting the precious holy name of the Lord while you are acting out this abominable act. This is called atonement. A true celibate practicing person takes all his energy and gives it to Lord Krishna and respects anyone. Read the Bhagavad-gita once more and tell me what it says about hate. Take a look back to the ABC's of spiritual life.
