Brahmin Bagels!

Although we devotees like to restrict ourselves to homemade breads, every once in a while some of us get that certain yen for a little bagel nosh. Instead of submitting ourselves to the karma and disappointment of store-bought supermarket bagels, why not make our own? I have seen some pretty good bagel recipes by devotee chefs and feel it is my dharma to continue the bagel parampara.

By following a few easy steps, devotees can achieve the bagel-jyoti. While they probably will not replicate the bagels of one's youth (unless one grew up in Kansas) they are an acceptable replacement.

Easy Sprouting

Recently I spoke with Jamuna Devi, who works in the kitchen at the restaraunt here. She told me a very easy way to sprout beans. I just sprouted whole mung dal and the process only took 2 days (1/2 inch tails). This process can be applied to virtually any type of whole bean. 

Kicheree, Sweet Tomato Chutney, and Roast Potatoes

Dear Devotees, 

Here are a couple of recipes which go perfectly together.

Kicheree
Ingredients: 6 tbs ghee or oil, 3 tsp cumin seeds, 3 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp hing....
Roast Potatoes
Ingredients: 4 or 5 large potatoes, cut in large cubes. 1/3 cup of oil (pref. olive oil)....
To mato Chutney           
Ingredients:  5 tbs olive oil, 3 tsp fennel seeds, 1/4 tsp hing (asafetida)....

Recipe For Red Veggie Burger Patties

As a seventeen year old, in the movement for four years, it took me some time to learn how to get adjusted to prasadam. By the mercy of the devotees, I have learned how to make veggie burgers. Unlike store brand veggie burgers, these burgers don't have eggs, onion, and garlic in them. In addition, the store brands has fat added to it. After many trials, I have finally perfected the veggie burger recipe.

Channa Masala

A quick and tasty recipe.
Bring tomatoes and garbanzo beans to boil. Add vegetables (broccoli, chard, spinach, even eggplant) if desired you can add all the spices directly to the tomatoes except for the mustard seeds.

Ekadasi Cake

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients to make a thick batter. Pour into well buttered baking dish and bake for 25 minutes, until cake is golden brown.
