Achintya
Mailing List - Update
By
Krishna Susarla
Since
introducing it several months ago, the
Achintya Bedha Abedha Tattva mailing
list has grown to about 290 members. All
postings are strictly moderated
according to brahminical standards of
behavior. This means that discussions
take place without flaming, politics, or
condescending remarks, which have
historically ruined other religious
Internet forums.
The
Quality of Chanting - Solution?
By
Cakra Pani das
Since
the spiritual health of individuals and
our organizations are very intimate
connected with the quality of chanting
the Holy Names of Sri Krishna, I would
like to introduce a new technique of
chanting the Maha Mantra, which has
proved to be quite potential for a
beginner like I am. It is a technique of
how to focus the mind on the Holy Name
without giving him the chance of
"spacing out", of wandering
away into the countless subjects he is
normally involved in.

"Naturaleza"
- Experiences with Srila Prabhupada?
By
Draupadi and Brajisma
Over the
years since Srila Prabhupada left, we
have had some very strong experiences of
direct communication and continual
guidance from him through dreams and
mystical experience. Sometimes we are
approached to recollect some of our
memories of Srila Prabhupada when he was
on this planet, and we all love to
cherish and relish these beautiful
memories.

many of us focus on the problems in

Sexual
Addiction: Treatable Disease
Author's Name Withheld on
Request
In a recent
article on CHAKRA, the author
explains the difficulty of following the
four regulative principles, especially
no illicit sex. Since Krishna
Consciousness principles set out by
Srila Prabhupada emphasize "no
illicit sex" as one of the
"pillars" of the Movement,
Srila Prabhupada's view was that sex
should only be employed for the
propagation of Krishna Conscious
children. The author of the recent
CHAKRA article argues it is very
difficult to follow this principle.
While it is not my purpose to address
that article directly, I wish to address
the topic of sexual addiction as a
treatable disease and to help you find
tools for self-assessment and support
groups.

Arts Children Books
By
Syamasundara das
Unfortunately,
recent reports suggest ISKCON has failed
in educating its children. If true, and
if the trend continues, how would Srila
Prabhupada's movement continue for
another 10,000 years? One answer to this
problem is to publish as many children’s
books as possible for the children and
lay a Krishna Conscious foundation for
them.

Leadership
Traits
ISKCON
Leadership – Part III
By Yugala Kisor das
In this essay, we will
review the leadership traits model and
how it is applicable to ISKCON
leadership. There are other models to be
reviewed in future essays, but I’d
like to bring to your attention that
understanding leadership traits is of
vital importance to ISKCON leaders. The
reason is that religious organizations
(ISKCON included) rely firmly on the
characters of their leaders. Although
the Holy Shastras are there to guide
mankind, people need the presence of
leaders to provide guidance,
encouragement, couching and exemplary
behavior. In other words, in secular
organizations leaders are only expected to adhere to a code
of conduct; whereas leaders in religious
organizations are required
to do so. Our leaders, especially the
top rank, cannot overlook this point, in
any way, at any time.

By Sikhi Mahiti das
CHAKRA
(Cape Town, South Africa) - One important
recent development in ISKCON is that
several senior disciples of Srila
Prabhupada who had close association
with him have begun the process of
writing down their memories of him. His
Holiness Giriraj Swami, who joined
ISKCON in 1969 and served in the Juhu
project as temple president under Srila
Prabhupada's direct supervision, has
recently released the first in a series
of books about his experiences with
Srila Prabhupada.
"Watering the Seed" consists
of anecdotes and articles from the
pastimes and teachings of Srila
Prabhupada. The book has been well

established in an attempt to discover
some rare opportunities and new
"pioneering soil" in which to
plant the transcendent seeds of Srila
Prabhupada's books (and to provide a

in very specific, undeveloped areas of
the world. Areas that currently remain
either non-funded or very poorly so.

CHAKRA (Vancouver)—His

Forbidden Archeology
and Banned Books Week
from
Lori Erbs
Celebrate Banned
Books Week with Forbidden
Archeology's Impact
The book that uncovered decades of
"buried evidence" challenging
the standard views on Human Evolution
was itself threatened with censorship!
September 26 - October 3 is Banned Books
Week, a time to cherish Intellectual
Freedom and the right to express one's
opinion even if that opinion may be
considered unorthodox or unpopular. Forbidden
Archeology's Impact: How A Controversial
New Book Shocked the Scientific
Community and Became an Underground
Classic by Michael A. Cremo
documents the explosive reaction of the
scientific community and other
establishment groups to his first work, Forbidden
Archeology: The Hidden History of the
Human Race.
In this provocative compilation of
reviews, correspondence and media
interviews readers get a stunning inside
look at how Establishment Scientists
felt so threatened by The Mysterious
Origins of Man, an NBC prime time
special hosted by Charlton Heston and
featuring Forbidden Archeology,
that they lobbied the Federal
Communications Commission to censure and
fine NBC for airing it! This documentary
also presents more subtle nuances of
Academia's Knowledge Filters at work as
reviewers ridicule Forbidden
Archeology because of conflicts with
deeply held beliefs and institutional
doctrines instead of lack of scholarly
content.
Forbidden Archeology co-authors
Michael A. Cremo and Richard L. Thompson
spent eight painstaking years retrieving
hundreds of significant archival
documents from obscure depositories in
libraries that had been practically
buried over the course of time. What
they discovered was that massive
quantities of perfectly good evidence
for alternate theories of human
evolution had been suppressed and
ignored by the academic community. Forbidden
Archeology has restored this
evidence to modern scrutiny.

Bhagavad-gita As It Is
from
Nitya-trpta (dd) ACBSP (Krsna Vision)
(DK)
Dandavats!
Jai Prabhupada!
This is to announce that although the
Bhagavad Gita As It Is CD ROM that is
now out fills a need, the BBT Trustees
want to make it even better. While
engaged in making the ISKCON Interactive
for 3 years we had always planned to
make the Gita after. Now we are in that
process and it should be ready by
December. If anyone has seen the ISKCON
Interactive, now available on a Demo CD
ROM, and soon out on DVD ROM, you will
know the quality we are planning.
This version will, besides the entire
book, have a notepad and extensive
search facilities. You can hear the
book, see slide shows and videos on the
philosophy, and much much more. It will
also link to a special WWW site for even
more information. Original music will be
composed by Krsna Prema das.
We will announce it when it is ready.

Notice to
Authors
From
Dhruva Maharaja Dasa
Dear Prabhus,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All
glories to Srila Prabhupada! For several
years my lifestyle has been one that’s
brought me back and forth to India. I
spent seven years going back and forth
to Vrndavana, three or four to Mayapur,
and the last three or four to Jagannatha
Puri. When we travel to India, it’s
not only for a few days but usually to
remain there for several months. This
constantly puts me into a dilemma of
deciding what books to bring, or to put
into storage, whatever the case may be.
I am now embarking on a new project that
will relieve that burden, and will no
doubt be of interest to many devotees. I
want to put as many books as possible on
a CD ROM so that devotees can take
bundles of books with them when they
travel, what to speak of having access
to all that information literally at
your finger tips wherever you are. To do
this I need the consent of various
authors, and will require each author’s
permission as well as computer disks, so
I don’t have to scan each and every
book page by page.
