Sri Mayapur Flood Bulletin and Gurukula Appeal
By Bhagavat Dharma das

CHAKRA (London, England) - October 25th, 2000: There is still a lot of work to do in ISKCON Mayapur, and we are continuing to support the villagers around the campus. And we still need your help. However, I think it would be fair to downgrade our emergency status from 10 down to about 7 on the Richter scale as it were.

That would not at all have been possible if it had not been for the substantial help and support we have received from devotees all over the world. I will write to all contributors individually in due course, but I wanted to offer a general thank you to all members of the devotee community for all your well wishes, your kindness and your consideration.

Santanu Kund to Radha Kund
By
Bhakta Damon

CHAKRA (Vraja Mandala Parikrama) - Krishna has played on every square inch of our parikrama path. There is no such spot that you can choose and say "Krishna didn't perform pastimes here." Not even one space the size of a pin. We meditate on all the wonderful activities Krishna performed in His manifested pastimes. There are too many places to visit at one time, and not enough time to tell all the pastimes that have occurred in these forests of Vrindavan.

Indian New Year at Spanish Fork
By Caru dasa

CHAKRA (Spanish Fork, Utah, USA): The New Year occurs during the lull between fall harvests and the onset of the monsoons. Thus it is a time of thanksgiving, and that corollary festival is called Anna Kuta (literally meaning "heaps of food"). Lord Krishna inaugurated this festival by inspiring the inhabitants of His village (Vrindavan) to worship the cows on this one day per year and to prepare a huge celebratory feast consisting of no less than 108 preparations.

CHAKRA (Vraja Mandala, India) - The devotees unpacked their gear at a guest house across the road from Sri Krishna Janmastan. Devotees entered the prison cell where Devaki gave birth to Lord Krishna. There was a quote written on the wall from the Hari bhakti vilas "Anyone who enters this place during the month of Karttika achieves the supreme destination." Everyone shouted Haribol, Jaya! They were delighted to get this news.

By Vipramukhya Swami

CHAKRA (Bhaktivedanta Manor, U.K.) - October 7, 2000: The biggest flood in West Bengal in 22 years is receding, but the damage and suffering is far from over. Flood waters reached the chest of the Sri-Sri Radha-Madhava deities on ISKCON property. The top of the massive doors into the temple room were under water. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes and livestock. Many people drowned.

Eye Witness Account of Flood
By Lalita devi dasi

Maybe you have heard that we are going through the biggest flood in the history of Mayapura. There is incredible damage and great losses everywhere in Mayapura. The local people are starving and living in trees and on banana rafts. Even in my building, which is so high off the ground, the water was 3 feet inside the bottom flats. You would have had water up to your ceiling if you had stayed where you were.

Letter to Raghunatha Anudasa
By Atma-nivedana dasa

I like Raghunatha Anudasa's plan to encourage as many Gurukulis as possible to join the suit and return their gains to ISKCON -- that is, as long as it seems most probable that individuals will hold to their original plan to give the gains back to ISKCON once they get them.

Ritvik Dissention in Calcutta
By Sridham das Brahmacari (Calcutta)

I do not want to leave this Calcutta temple in which I have served Sri Sri Radha Govinda for 10 years. I request all authorities concerned to direct Adri not to further abuse me physically or psychologically, or implicate me in any false case. I pray to Sri Sri Radha Govinda and Srila Prabhupada to give Adri some good conscience and detachment from the post of temple president.

Mayapur Under Water
By Madhumati devi dasi

CHAKRA (Calcutta, India) - September 29, 2000: We're now in Calcutta and have found that there is no way for us to get to Mayapur. The highway and railbeds are flooded out! We cannot even get to Krishnanagar.

Nrsimhadeva is completely submerged in Ganga water, and Radha-Madhava are in it to Their knees. The temple room is closed - one would have to dive to even get in the door of the temple room.

India Flood Survivors Desperate
By Laurinda Keys, Associated Press, New Delhi

Floodwaters continued to rise Tuesday in West Bengal state, and an aid worker said some stranded people were so hungry and desperate that they were jumping from treetops into passing relief boats.

More than 700 people have died in India and Bangladesh since Sept. 18 when late monsoon rains flowed over riverbanks and dams, drowning the tree-lined frontier between the two countries under 10 feet of water.

Ritviks Rant and Rave - Response to Allegations that Jayapataka Swami is on the Run
By Goloka Chandra das

If you have received recent mass mailings from the IRM or read their postings on public forums, and want to know what's really going on, then read this text which presents all the known facts of a case currently under investigation.

1) There is no arrest order on Jayapataka Maharaja issued by the police anywhere in the world.

2) Since there is no warrant of arrest on him, he is not on the run. As a sannyasi, he is traveling and preaching as he has always been doing all these years on the direct order of his spiritual master, His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
