Thousands
See ISKCON Float at Diwali Procession in London CHAKRA (London, England) - 23
October, 2000: More
than twenty thousand people saw hundreds of ISKCON devotees performing
harinama and leading a procession organized by the Brent Council in
Wembley to celebrate Diwali 2000. The ISKCON float and bullock cart has
been leading the annual Diwali procession, one of the largest in Europe
for the last ten years. Diwali is celebrated to mark the return of Sri
Ramachandra to Ayodhya Dham after killing the demon Ravana. © CHAKRA 30-October-2000 Sri
Mayapur Flood Bulletin and Gurukula Appeal CHAKRA (London, England) - October
25th, 2000: There is still a lot of work to do in ISKCON Mayapur, and we
are continuing to support the villagers around the campus. And we still
need your help. However, I think it would be fair to downgrade our
emergency status from 10 down to about 7 on the Richter scale as it were. That
would not at all have been possible if it had not been for the substantial
help and support we have received from devotees all over the world. I will
write to all contributors individually in due course, but I wanted to
offer a general thank you to all members of the devotee community for all
your well wishes, your kindness and your consideration. © CHAKRA 30-October-2000 After
the Flood CHAKRA (Mayapur, India) - The
Deities are back in place. The temple room is dry. The devotees are busy
cleaning and repairing. There
are many sick
devotees. Old people and pregnant women, etc. are devastated in the
surrounding villages so they are continuing relief work for them for some
weeks. © CHAKRA 30-October-2000 Business
as Usual in Israel The
devotees here in Ariel, which is right on the edge of the Arab
territories, are carrying on. Soldiers are stationed at the entries to the
town. The government has asked everyone to help in feeding the soldiers,
so the devotees are bringing a lot of prasadam to them every day. It is
very much appreciated. The government is in slightly more turmoil than
usual, but for the people it is business as usual... © CHAKRA 30-October-2000 Jaipur
Ratha Yatra Invitation I
would like to invite each and every one of you to attend the first
Rathayatra in Jaipur. It is to be held on the 10th of November. We will be
arranging buses from Vrindavan and Delhi for the devotees on the 9th
afternoon returning on the 11th morning. All traveling, accommodation and
prasadam expenses will be taken care of by our committee. We are arranging
dormitory style accommodations for devotees and limited double rooms for
senior devotees. © CHAKRA 30-October-2000 Santanu
Kund to Radha Kund CHAKRA (Vraja Mandala Parikrama) -
Krishna
has played on every square inch of our parikrama path. There is no such
spot that you can choose and say "Krishna didn't perform pastimes
here." Not even one space the size of a pin. We meditate on all the
wonderful activities Krishna performed in His manifested pastimes. There
are too many places to visit at one time, and not enough time to tell all
the pastimes that have occurred in these forests of Vrindavan. © CHAKRA 25-October-2000 Invitation

New Year at Spanish Fork CHAKRA (Spanish Fork, Utah, USA):
The
New Year occurs during the lull between fall harvests and the onset of the
monsoons. Thus it is a time of thanksgiving, and that corollary festival
is called Anna Kuta (literally meaning "heaps of food"). Lord
Krishna inaugurated this festival by inspiring the inhabitants of His
village (Vrindavan) to worship the cows on this one day per year and to
prepare a huge celebratory feast consisting of no less than 108
preparations. © CHAKRA 25-October-2000 Grand Opening of New Temple in
Gita Nagari, USA Please
join the residents of Sri Gita-nagari Dhama and special guests at the
auspicious Grand Opening of Sri Sri Radha-Damodara's new temple. Gita
Nagari is an ISKCON farm located near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. © CHAKRA 22-October-2000 Parikrama News CHAKRA (Vraja Mandala, India) - The devotees unpacked their
gear at a guest house across the road from Sri Krishna Janmastan. Devotees
entered the prison cell where Devaki gave birth to Lord Krishna. There was
a quote written on the wall from the Hari bhakti vilas "Anyone who
enters this place during the month of Karttika achieves the supreme
destination." Everyone shouted Haribol, Jaya! They were delighted to
get this news. © CHAKRA 22-October-2000 Upcoming Rathayatra in Delhi On behalf of His Divine Grace
Srila Prabhupada, I would like to cordially invite all of you to Lord
Jagannath Ratha Yatra festival on 1st November 2000. Many many sanyasis,
gurus and GBCs and Temple Presidents will grace the Ratha Yatra. © CHAKRA 22-October-2000 Help Find Bobby Spurlock I writing to seek assistance
in helping a mother locate her missing son. Below is a description of the
missing man, Robert Ernest (Bobby) Spurlock. If you have any information

Seminar Inis Rath Island, Ireland: Devotees
residing in and around Govindadwipa Dhama, Northern Ireland, were
privileged to have the chance to attend a seminar on a synthesis of
"Tai Chi Chuan" and "Chi Gung" on Saturday 14th
October- Sunday 15th October held by Mahakrama dasa. © CHAKRA 22-October-2000 Biggest Flood in 22 Years
Receding But Suffering Not Over CHAKRA (Bhaktivedanta Manor, U.K.) -
October 7, 2000: The biggest flood in West Bengal in 22 years is
receding, but the damage and suffering is far from over. Flood waters
reached the chest of the Sri-Sri Radha-Madhava deities on ISKCON
property. The top of the massive doors into the temple room were under
water. Hundreds of thousands of people lost their homes and livestock.
Many people drowned. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Flood Relief Motorboats
Capsize Two motorboats
carrying rice for flood victims collided and capsized, sending 87
quintals of rice to the bottom. The accident took place at the
confluence of the Bhagirathi and Jalangi rivers at Nabadwip. The rice
had been sent from district headquarters in Krishnagar for flood
victims in Swarup Ganj. The head-on collision took place at night. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Eye Witness Account of
Flood Maybe
you have heard that we are going through the biggest flood in the history of
Mayapura. There is incredible damage and great losses everywhere in Mayapura.
The local people are starving and living in trees and on banana rafts. Even
in my building, which is so high off the ground, the water was 3 feet inside
the bottom flats. You would have had water up to your ceiling if you had
stayed where you were. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Sanskrit Education - Resources
for Learning This fall Samskrita Bharati,
the South Indian organization dedicated to reviving Sanskrit as a spoken
language, will release a two-CD set for learning the language. It is
excellently done, including dictionaries, alphabet instruction, grammar
tutorials, and illustrated dialogue. I will post a follow-up notice when
the CD's become available. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Theater Company Takes Shape A group of
devotees are forming a new Theater Group in North America. They will call
themselves “The Vedic Theater Group.” The group plans
a spring-summer tour of the United States in 2001 featuring a play on the
Mahabharata. The play, which they claim is “mesmerizing,” with a crew
of 2 male actors. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Letter to Raghunatha
Anudasa I like Raghunatha
Anudasa's plan to encourage as many Gurukulis as possible to join the
suit and return their gains to ISKCON -- that is, as long as it seems most
probable that individuals will hold to their original plan to give the
gains back to ISKCON once they get them. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 2001 GBC Meetings Scheduled In coordination with Ravindra Swarupa and Hari Sauri prabhus, the 2001 GBC
meeting dates have been set for Feb. 7 - 19, 2001. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Ritvik Dissention in Calcutta I do not want
to leave this Calcutta temple in which I have served Sri Sri Radha Govinda
for 10 years. I request all authorities concerned to direct Adri not to
further abuse me physically or psychologically, or implicate me in any
false case. I pray to Sri Sri Radha Govinda and Srila Prabhupada to give
Adri some good conscience and detachment from the post of temple
president. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Appeal for Pujaris We urgently
need pujaris and cooks for our beautiful deities, Sri Sri Radha Govinda Candra
and Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. This is new Vrajamandala, a farm of 300 hectares of
camp and beautiful surroundings we are ready to buy your ticket to make your way
here and back. © CHAKRA 7-October-2000 Mayapur Under Water CHAKRA (Calcutta, India) -
September 29, 2000: We're now in Calcutta and have found that there is no way for us to get
to Mayapur. The highway and railbeds are flooded out! We cannot even get
to Krishnanagar. Nrsimhadeva is completely submerged in Ganga water, and
Radha-Madhava are in it to Their knees. The temple room is closed - one
would have to dive to even get in the door of the temple room. © CHAKRA 29-September-2000 India Flood Survivors
Desperate Floodwaters continued to rise Tuesday in West Bengal state, and an aid
worker said some stranded people were so hungry and desperate that they
were jumping from treetops into passing relief boats. More than 700 people have died in India and Bangladesh since Sept. 18
when late monsoon rains flowed over riverbanks and dams, drowning the
tree-lined frontier between the two countries under 10 feet of water. © CHAKRA 29-September-2000 Ritviks Rant and Rave -
Response to Allegations that Jayapataka Swami is on the Run If you have received recent mass mailings from the IRM or read their postings on public forums, and want to know what's really going on, then read this text which presents all the known facts of a case currently under investigation. 1) There is no arrest order on Jayapataka Maharaja issued
by the police anywhere in the world. 2) Since there is no warrant of arrest on him, he is not
on the run. As a sannyasi, he is traveling and preaching as he has always
been doing all these years on the direct order of his spiritual master,
His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. © CHAKRA 27-September-2000
