CHAKRA (Dallas, Texas) - June 26, 2001: At 3:05 a. m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 Kirtida devi dasi, a disciple of H. H. Tamal Krishna Goswami, left her body in Radha Kalachandji Dhama in Dallas, Texas from esophageal cancer. Mother Kirtida was observed by devotees, family and former co-workers in the medical profession to be blissful, fearless and in control of her mind up until the time of her auspicious departure. She left her body with the Govardhan Sila of H. H. Rtadvaja Swami placed on her forehead while continuous kirtan was being performed. Mother Kulangana, a senior devotee from Bhaktivedanta Manor, personally observed Kirtida’s departure, and remarked:

Diary of a Traveling Preacher Volume 3, Chapter 28
By Indradyumna Swami

March 14-21, 2001

Although I have passed through America briefly on two or three occasions, for all practical purposes I haven't been here for 30 years - more than a quarter of a century. As a result, I felt almost like an immigrant entering a foreign country. And upon arriving in San Francisco, I even behaved like one! After passing through Customs and immigration I went to make a phone a call - but discovered I had no change. Looking closely at the telephone, I saw to my surprise that one could make calls using a credit card. So I pulled out the one my son sent me to use "in case of emergencies,” and put it into the appropriate slot in the telephone. But as it started going in, I quickly pulled it out - afraid that it might disappear inside! I did this several times, unaware that the card was meant to stop three-quarters of the way in. The man standing behind me, waiting to use the phone, looked on in disbelief! He finally spoke up.

"What on earth are you doing?" he said.

Abbreviated Devotional History of Srimati Sunita Devi Dasi
By Tosan Krishna dasa

"WHATEVER ONE REMEMBERS AT THE TIME OF DEATH, THAT STATE HE WILL ATTAIN WITHOUT FAIL" (She departed amongst friends calling out to Sri Krishna and Srila Prabhupada.)

Sunita was born in Brajadhama in an Aggarwal family in the village of Hatras in 1949. Both her mother and father were born in Mathura.

Her father educated his children as Vaishnavas. They read Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagawatam, Mahabharat, Ramayan and Caitanya Mahaprabhu's Sisastak. The family visited Vrindaban very regularly and often stayed over night. Her father later bought a room for the family near Bankibihari Temple at the Radha bhavan ashram at the end of Bhaktivedanta Swami Marg.

Glories of Tribhuvannatha Prabhu
By Naran Narayan Viswakarma das

I wish to offer my humble obeisances to Tribhuvannatha prabhu.

I remember him from 1971, as the 18 year old president of the Bury Place temple. The temple president , and later the treasurer, had "blooped" taking all the money from the temple treasury and leaving the temple in deep debt.

Tribhuvannatha did not hesitate. He acted with the assumption of success although there was not even a shred of evidence to support the prospect of the temple remaining open for even one more month.

Vrindavan, Badrinath, Kedarnath Pilgrimage
Submitted by Lokanatha Swami

Approximately 180 devotees from various ISKCON Maharashtrian temples set out for the Vrindavana-Badrinath-Kedarnath tirtha yatra on 21st May 2001 with HH Lokanath Swami Maharaj. Our first stop was Gokul (Nandabhavan). We saw beautiful deities of Lord Krishna, Nanda and Yasoda and also in the temple were 84 ancient pillars constructed by the demigod Viswakarma. It is said that by circumambulating these 84 pillars we get freed from entering the 8.4 million species of life forms. From this place we walked for 5 minutes doing kirtan to the place where Lord performed the Damodar lila, there we saw the ancient grinding mortar to which the Lord was tied (bound with ropes) by Mother Yasoda for stealing butter. Gokul is situated in Mahavan (one of the 12 forests of Vrindavana)

Diary of a Traveling Preacher - Vol. 3 Chapter 24
By Indradyumna Swami

February 20-23

"May my eyes become overwhelmed with ecstasy by seeing the nectar waves of Vrindavan's beauty. May my intelligence drown in the nectar ocean of Vrindavan's glories. May my body become agitated by the swiftly moving currents of ecstatic bliss and thus roll about on the ground of Vrindavan. Falling down like a stick, may I offer my respectful obeisances to all the residents of Vrindavan. " [Vrindavan Mahimamrta, Introduction, Text 14]

Volume 3, Chapter 25

February 25-28

I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, after an exhausting 33-hour journey from India. After a few hours' rest, the devotees whisked me away to a Sunday Feast program in a large auditorium near the temple. Somehow I delivered a lecture to the mainly Indian audience, emphasizing that they should not give up their original Vedic philosophy for Western culture. The devotees presented a nice play afterwards, but halfway through I was so tired that I fell asleep, so the devotees took me back to the temple.

By Indradyumna Swami

Volume 3, Chapter 26

March 1-3, 2001

On March 1, I woke up with my left eye quivering. I remembered reading somewhere in Srila Prabhupada's books that such quivering is either an auspicious or inauspicious omen. I wanted to check the books to find out which one it was, but by the time I finished my rounds and did my puja it was time to go on sankirtan. Mahesvara dasa, a disciple of Bhakti Caru Maharaja, picked me up at 9am and we left for our appointments.

Glasnost and the Rabbit Mind
By Nscala devi dasi

I would like to thank the CHAKRA editors very much for posting up my last letter, as well as this one. I didn't think either would be posted at all, so I take it as a good sign, a trend towards glasnost, or openness. Thank you. Openness, glasnost, is the only remedy for the anartha of diplomacy, kutinati, which has served to cover our problems, and perpetrate our illusions. By not facing and learning from our problems, we inevitably repeat our mistakes, remaining firmly rooted in the same diseased soil, even while we mouth reform with ever increasing intensity.
