Vamana Dev Leaves Body Dear Maharajs and Prabhus, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. This is to inform you that His Grace Vamana Dev Das (age 80 yrs), a dedicated follower of Srila Prabhupada left this world on 18 July 2002 at Mumbai. He was in hospital for a few days. Devotees at Sri Sri Radha Rasabihari Mandir, Juhu, performed his last rites, and his body was cremated on 19 July 2002. Your servant, Help in Exchange for Work Dear devotees, I'd like to appeal for your help. I have a 21-month-old son who had three operations on his ears in Feb/March. He has had a chronic ear infection since he was about ten months old. He had significant hearing loss, but things are resolved now. Medical insurance covered most of the expenses. Still, my percentage to pay adds up to four hundred Euros. I posted a letter to several com conferences a few months ago asking for help. Thanks to quite a few devotees, I'm halfway finished paying this off. Looking
for UK Devotees Hare Krishna I am trying to get in contact with either Ramnrsinga Prabhu or Samba das in the United Kingdom. If anyone has a contact e-mail address for them, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could forward the information to me at rupa@wol.co.za or any other contact numbers. Thank you. Your servant, Thanks
for "Fireworks" Dear editor, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Thank you very much for posting the ecstatic story of the July 4th Harinama sankirtana party in Berkeley. Of all the ways to perform devotional service within ISKCON, somehow this Harinama sankirtana seems the most ecstatic. All glories to these sankirtana devotees! Your servant, [See "Fireworks of Divine Love" Chakra July 21, 2002.]
Calcutta
Rathayatra Dear Devotees, Please accept my most humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. We have the great pleasure to share with you a brief story and a lot of pics about the Calcutta Rathayatra Festival held by ISKCON Calcutta and Mayapur on the 12th of July with a one week program in tha Maidan area with Pandal programs including, apart from the temple, a place for Yajna, a book and prasadam distribution stall, life members center and halls, VIP halls, exhibitions, a stage for cultural program, and a japa meditation hall. King
of Nepal Receives Dear Devotees, A nice experience for us was the opportunity to meet Their Majesties Gyanendra Bir Vikram Shah Dev and Queen Komal Raj Lakshmi Shah Devi, the King and Queen of Nepal, during a reception in Calcutta while they were on an official visit to India last June 27. I didn't want to go there without offering some present to the king, and I thought the best thing would be a Bhagavad Gita in Hindi written by Srila Prabhupada. There were restrictions for security reasons, and the consul told me by phone that it might be impossible, but I prayed to the Lord to allow us this, and I took a new Bhagavad-Gita in Hindi with me and went to the reception.
A
Novel Way to Introduce One might be skeptical how much interest might be generated by presentations on the ancient Vedic world view amongst educated audiences in today's fast-pace hi-tech lifestyle. There is a great deal of responsiveness out there, according to the experience of His Holiness Romapada Swami. Romapada Swami, a longtime teacher of Krishna consciousness in the northeastern region of the United States has had remarkable success using Sadaputa Prabhu's CD Mysteries of the Sacred Universe to introduce the worldview of Srimad-Bhagavatam to both academic and professional audiences.
Mayapur Institute of Krishna has blessed the MIHE with the best line up of teachers ever. The MIHE staff is eager to serve
devotees in Sri Mayapur Dham as they hear and chant, We hope to see you in Mayapur. 2002 - 2003 Schedule Wigs
for the Deities Hare Krishna! I just wanted to let the devotee community know about a real wonderful web site I found. It is called monique.com. They sell doll wigs of all sizes, styles, and colors. We just received some wigs from them for our Gaura-Nitai and small Radha-Krishna Deities for the Phoenix temple. They are beautiful! Soft, shiny, and curly with an adjustable Velcro strap inside. The price was also right. We are very happy with them. I know that temples or devotees who worship Deities at home often have a hard time finding nice wigs for their Deities, not to speak of finding the right size. So I just wanted to share this good news. Your servant, Mahabharata Premiere By Bhakta Wallace The Vedic Theatre Company in conjunction with the Gorilla Theatre is proud to
announce the premiere of this powerful adaptation in Kansas City, Missouri, in

of a Traveling Preacher July 4-17, 2002 – The pressure to find our own land along the Baltic Sea coast for a tour base increased when locals told us the mayor in Swierzno, where we are renting a school as a base this summer, will definitely not be re-elected next year. It was through her influence only that the school director agreed to rent us the facility this year. Furthermore, our inquiries have shown that any available property is being bought up in expectation of land values increasing after Poland joins the European Union in 18 months. But our busy festival schedule allows us hardly any time to search for property. We are holding a major festival every day of the week except Monday. All 280 devotees rise at 5am each day and never take rest before 11pm. It is an intense but fully satisfying program, as many thousands of people are getting mercy daily. It can be compared only to drinking hot sugarcane juice — though burning the lips it’s too sweet to stop. Prime
Minister Praises In a message sent on 21st June, Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of Britain, praised the London Rathayatra as an important event that enhances the multi-cultural diversity of British society. The Prime Minister's message is a clear signal that ISKCON and Vaisnava culture are being widely accepted by the British establishment. The text of the message is as follows: 1O DOWNING STREET LONDON SW1A 2AA THE PRIME MINISTER I am delighted to send my very best wishes to all those attending the 33rd Annual Carnival of Chariots in London. I know that Hindus from all over Britain will participate in the Carnival which in fact is the largest Hindu procession outside India. I am proud to be the Prime Minister of a country of many cultures and many faiths. I strongly believe that having a diversity of backgrounds and experiences is one of Britain’s great strengths. RVC:
Update on Status We have received a reply from the Missouri Department of Higher Education in reference to the status of RVC [Rupanuga Vedic College] (see letter below). Some devotees have inquired about why RVC does not provide facilities for educating and training ladies in Vedic studies or Krishna consciousness, I will respond to that question. It is certainly not because we do not care about the spiritual lives of ladies. I have personally been very involved in helping to establish education and training programs for ladies, in particular the Bhaktin Program that I began in 1974 at New Dvaraka. Later I personally helped establish Bhaktin Programs in many other places including London (with Rohininandana Prabhu and his wife Radhapriya devi dasi), South Africa, Miami, Vancouver, Denver, Portland, Tel Aviv, Athens, Amsterdam, Villa Vrndavana, and Tampa. Today I continue to give advice to those interested in developing training and education programs for Vaisnavis. Fireworks
of Divine Love What a gift His Divine Grace AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada has given us! This gift of Hari Nam Sankirtan never fails to induce the highest nectarean pleasures that simply cannot be attained in materialistic activities. Thanks to Lord Caitanya's mercy on the world, miracles are now common. Through Hari Nam Sankirtan, an American Independence Day celebration turned into a haven of transcendental bliss. Padma
Academy Students Honor Navadvipa Dhama
Introduction "How to have our students’ minds absorbed in the appearance of the Lord in His form as Caitanya Mahaprabhu?" Campakalata devi dasi, gurukula school teacher and gurukula graduate, pondered. Gaura purnima, the anniversary of the appearance of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, was approaching in six weeks. "A major artistic project that we can work on bit by bit for many weeks will certainly help them meditate on the Lord." When Sitarani devi dasi, age 12, suggested dioramas, Campakalata decided to make nine of them—one for each of the islands that form the greater area of Lord Caitanya’s birthplace. There are wonderful stories of saints and the Lord that took place on each of these islands of Navadvipa. Students and teachers picked one main story per island and fashioned a diorama on a base shaped like lotus petals and a center, as Navadvipa’s shape resembles that of a lotus. Suicide:
There Is Another Choice I would like to write in response to the recent suicide in Potomac. I am not writing as a sympathetic bystander devotee, as any type of authority, or as anybody in any position. I would like to write that there was a time in my devotional life where suicide was, or appeared to be, the only loving choice I could make. For other devotees that may consider terminating their material bodies now or in the future, it does not have to happen. There are devotees out here that care, that have been there, that can and will listen. Today I am still embodied (obviously) and have a life that is full of joy and happiness. My life appears to some devotees as a fallen condition, entangled in maya and doomed for hell. But it is my life not theirs to even consider. This joy and happiness is derived from opportunities that would have been missed, opportunities to purify my life and perform devotional service according to my nature and level of advancement. Today I would never trade one moment of what I have now for what I had then. Utah:
Eighth Annual Llama Festival Spanish Fork event to draw When: Saturday, July 20, 4 pm Where: KHQN Radio, South Main, Spanish Fork Contacts: Charu or Vai 798-3559/787-1510 Spanish Fork – In their native Peru, Chile, and Bolivia, llamas carry heavy loads over terrain that is impassable to motorized vehicles. They are the trucks of the Andes. In America, life is much easier where they have become popular for carrying camping gear on weekend hikes and day trips. Many have found a niche as sheep guards on the open range. Still others, like an RV purchased with good intentions but somehow never used, spend their lives simply munching grass and looking gorgeous and exotic to passersby. Preachers

to Go? I have noticed that there are two schools of thought on the subject of offering mushrooms to Krsna. My understanding is that Srila Prabhupada commented that mushrooms were not suitable to offer because of the unclean environment in which they were grown. There was a discussion on COM about this some time back, and a Mataji gave a first-hand account of Srila Prabhupada instructing that the mushrooms that were growing on the New Vrindavan property were all right to offer. These days, mushrooms are grown in clean places. Does this mean we can offer mushrooms to Krsna now? Any comments would be appreciated. Your servant,

Rathayatra Website Dear Chakra, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Thanking all devotees for a wonderful Rathayatra festival in London 23rd June. Please click this link: Jaya Jagannatha, Subhadra, Balaram ki jaya! Your servant, Srila
Prabhupada Attends Saranagati Rathayatra June 29, 2002 – As the large luxurious passenger bus left the Vancouver temple parking lot embarking on its four-hour journey to the annual Saranagati Farm Rathayatra in the interior of beautiful British Columbia, Canada, the weather seemed questionable Srila Prabhupada would leave from the Vancouver temple a little later accompanied by HH Vipramukhya Swami, HG Bhava prabhu, and my humble self, Jaya Govinda das, in a brand-new Lincoln town car, which we had acquired especially for the occasion.
Vrindavan:
Taking Srila
Last week in our regular department head meeting, I mentioned how I am so envious when I go to Mayapur and other temples and see them taking the small deity of Srila Prabhupada on parikrama. Then some of the older devotees like Devakinandan, Rajashekhara, and Daivishakti remembered how whenever Srila Prabhupada visited Vrindavan Temple, he used to go with kirtan making parikrama of the temple. So then we decided that starting immediately, after Sringar Darshan in the Samadhi, we would take the utsav deity of Srila Prabhupada to the temple room for Sringar darshan at all the three altars in the temple. Then after taking caranamrita, we would take Srila Prabhupada to the Vyasasana for Guru Puja. After Guru Puja artik, will take Srila Prabhupada on parikrama of the temple, then return to the Vyasasana for more kirtan, and then class. After class, then we will return Srila Prabhupada to the Samadhi. The Distributor's Outlet! Snan
Yatra in Mayapur Dear Devotees, Dandavat Pranam. We would like to share few pictures of the transcendental celebration of Jagannath Snan Yatra in Mayapur. Lord Jagannath, Sri Baladeva, and Srimati Subhadra take snan (bath) in public so all the devotees can have the opportunity to do seva to the Lord once in a year. The Deities in the Holy Dham are more than 500 years old, from the time of Sri Gauranga Mahaprabhu, and are considered some of the most active Deities of Lord Jagannath, Sri Baladeva, and Srimati Subhadra in the world. Devotees went from Sri Mayapur Candrodaya Mandir to the main temple of Lord Jagannath to perform this great service during this season before the celebration of Rathayatra. For more information please visit our website Your servant, Diary
of a Traveling Preacher June 28 – July 3, 2002 As we drove north to the Baltic Sea coast, I looked forward to the first festival of our summer tour. It was to be held in Kolobrzeg, a town with a population of 100,000. Last year's festival there was the best of the tour and marked the first time the council had provided us with a prime location (next to the boardwalk on the beach). The festival included a Vedic marriage ceremony, which became the talk of the town. This year, however, was different. The entire town council, including the mayor, had been voted out of office, and when Nandini dasi and Radha Sakhi Vrinda dasi went to the town hall to seek a permit for the current festival, the new council refused. When the pair appealed the decision, the council agreed to a proposal from an old opponent, the town architect, that anyone wanting to do a festival on council property must pay $3000 a day. According to a council member, who is favorable to the Festival of India, our antagonist slammed his fist on the table and said, "That will keep the Hare Krishnas out of Kolobrzeg." Polish
Woodstock: Devotees Needed On August 1, 2, and 3 our Laksmi-Nrsimha Festival tour will be participating again in the annual Woodstock Festival in Poland. Over 400,000 young people are expected. Our Krsna's Village of Peace, situated on 1 hectare of land just 75 meters from the main stage, will consist of 35 large tents and exhibitions. Our main tent, where we will have stage programs 12 hours a day, will be 110 meters long and 34 meters wide — bigger than a soccer field. Last year the tent was filled with 10,000 kids at any time of the day or night. Each year we distribute 80,000 plates of prasadam. This year we are planning to distribute 100,000 plates. We will also be holding a large Ratha Yatra procession with the English Rath Cart through the festival grounds on August 1. The
Radiant Rose Dear Devotees and Friends, I heard a story the other day that was not related to Krishna Consciousness but could be applied very easily. The speaker was saying that once there was a rose that somehow grew from the concrete. And someone remarked that it looked weak, and another person remarked that it was growing on too much of a slant. But the speaker took note that although a very amazing thing had occurred — a rose had grown from the concrete — still the others were more interested in the imperfections of the rose. This can be applied to our ISKCON movement. Even though it has grown from America in the West (the concrete), still the critics will only take notice of its faults and imperfections, not that amazingly it has grown from the West by Srila Prabhupada's endeavor. Jai! Your servant, Narasimha Chandan Yatra Festival 2002 July 13-14 2002 at Narasimha Ksetra, Germany, We invite everyone to come and join us in celebrating the auspicious event where Lord Narasimhadev will be fully covered with sandalwood paste and special pujas will be done. The temple is situated in the most beautiful area of Bavaria near Passau in the midst of natural springs, deep forests, and high mountains. Places to stay will be provided either on the farm itself or in the guesthouses nearby.

about TKG We would like to give a brief account of the 56th Sri Vyasapuja celebration of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami in Mayapur yesterday, June 28th, 2002. As usual, the day before, devotees celebrated Adivas Ceremony in 876 in the Conch Bldg in his quarters, with puspanjali, kirtans, and glorification. During the Vyasapuja day (28-6-02), the ceremony was celebrated as follows, according to a meeting with all the disciples present, and the services were distributed among all of them. Manasi Ganga dd performed arati during mangala arati at the Samadhi site, kirtan was lead by Shyamaraman Das, then chanting rounds around the samadhi until the time for darsan arati in the main temple. Afterwards devotees went back to the samadhi and did gurupuja to HH Tamal Krishna Goswami, and that arati was done by Ali krsna dd.

Prabhupada Festival in Kartik This coming Kartik will mark 25 years of service in Separation from our Divine Master and Savior of the World, Srila Prabhupada. We want to invite all the devotees, especially those who were present at that divine event 25 years ago, to join together with the followers of Srila Prabhupada throughout the world for a wonderful festival of Srila Prabhupada Consciousness. The festival dates will be 6,7, and 8 November, so you should start planning now how you can participate in this event for the pleasure of Srila Prabhupada. Appreciating
Vipramukhya Swami This letter is written after reading Vipramukhya Swami's letter, titled "A Critical Letter and My Response." I live in a country where I do not have the opportunity to go to a temple, associate with devotees, or find books on the transcendental knowledge of Krishna. Still, Krishna has given me a valuable opportunity through the internet medium. All I learned and still learn is via the internet. One of the sources I have looked at for nearly a year now is the site www.chantandbehappy.com. Land

Midwest Rave Scene I'm writing to see if there are any devotees out there that are connected in any way with the rave scene. We're trying to start up a promotion group in the Midwest area to throw all-night parties with a Krsna-conscious-centered theme. This seems to be an almost untapped area here in Iowa and a fertile ground to plant some bhakti seeds. As of yet we haven't begun, but we're very enthusiastic that this could become a great preaching vehicle à la the early Mantra Rock concerts in San Francisco.

Vyasa Puja in Mayapur Today 28-6-02 is the Sri Vyasapuja celebration of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami, the first after his physical departure in Gaura Mandal. His samadhi is beside Srila Prabhupada’s samadhi in Mayapur, and we are attaching few pictures that were taken recently so all of you can see how it looks like at this moment. Today, disciples, well-wishers, and devotees in general celebrated the Sri Vyasapuja of HH Tamal Krsna Goswami in his quarters in the Conch Building in Mayapur, and yesterday was the adivas ceremony (later we will post most details). This morning there were homages from Godbrothers, disciples, and well-wishers, and after that there were aratis simultaneously in the quarters as well in the samadhi. After that, there was a big feast for all the devotees in the big kitchen arranged by HH Tamal Krsna Goswami’s disciples. We will be sending pictures soon about this celebration. Spiritual
Connections:
TKG Edition "Tamal Krishna Maharaja was one of my most prominent spiritual connections to Srila Prabhupada. Under his guidance I served His Divine Grace during his final pastimes. He taught me not only how to serve His Divine Grace, but also his ISKCON and the entire Vaisnava community. From him I learnt how to become Srila Prabhupada’s watchdog. Therefore, after his disappearance, I felt it was my duty to broadcast his glory in whichever way I could. Since Spiritual Connections is the forum to communicate with my disciples and friends, I decided to use this medium as my first attempt in that endeavour." —His Holiness Bhakti Charu Maharaja. This new special edition of Spiritual Connections magazine is dedicated to His Holiness Tamal Krishna Maharaja and comprises 48 pages of nectar from the early years with Srila Prabhupada, his pioneering preaching activities, and the sweet nectar of remembrances from Mayapur. on Suicide Date: 6/30/02 Contact Person: Trikalajna Das (301) 299-7205, Sri.Trikalajna.MG@pamho.net On Saturday, June 29th evening, Dragon Bilbija (Damodar das – spiritual ordained name) committed suicide in the woods in Potomac, Maryland. We were informed by the police about this in the evening at around 9:30 pm. Bilbija, a young man aged 23, had been in Potomac since July 2001, offering religious voluntary services to the Krishna temple. He was planning to leave for his native country, Serbia, early July. Are
Material Degrees Really Useless? Dr S Arnold notes in his recent article that he believes that the Rupanuga
Vedic College is accredited in the "real eternal spiritual world."
That may be, but then so are ISKCON's other educational programs, such as those
offered in Mayapur and Vrindavan and the temple "bhakta/bhaktin"
programs. That is wonderful and the world certainly needs more programs that
teach us about spiritual matters. In fact, after reading the course content of
the revised RVC website, it seems very similar to a temple bhakta program —
only of longer duration and including more of Prabhupada's books. |
